13 Digital Technologies Computing (Digital media and databases)

Subject Description

Objectives

The objectives of this course are to develop students

  • The ability to work interdependently on projects - both by themselves and in a collaborative manner, whenever the need arises.
  • To further develop coding skills in website development and database management to ensure the completion of a successful outcome.
  • To combine and integrate skills developed at 11DTC and/or 12DTC to complete a fully functioning website on a server, provided by the school.
  • To design and develop websites using authentic contexts and following a realistic process. 
  • Use a variety of strategies to complete assessments. 

Content

  • The ability to understand how a technological outcome interacts with its surroundings.
  • Revise HTML, CSS, and Javascript coding aspects.
  • Complete a simple business-related website.
  • Revise SQL and basic PHP coding practice.
  • Learn and develop further skills in SQL and Php coding practices.
  • Use PHPmyadmin to create and edit a database, using appropriate tools on the server.


Extension/Enrichment Opportunities:

Students who show aptitude can take part in the scholarship program. The invitation is by the teacher.

Special Note:

In cases where there is a clash in the Achievement Standards when individual students to multiple technologies (especially Digital Technologies), alternative assessments will be discussed with those students to avoid students losing opportunities to obtain the desired number of credits. This will be done on an individual basis and at the teacher's discretion.

A.S. 91610 v3 Generic Technology 3.3 - Develop a conceptual design considering fitness for purpose in the broadest sense.

Term 3
A.S. 91903 v1 Digital Technologies and Hangarau Matihiko 3.4 - Use complex techniques to develop a digital media outcome.

Term 4
A.S. 91909 v1 Digital Technologies and Hangarau Matihiko 3.10 - Present a reflective analysis of developing a digital outcome.

Recommended Prior Learning

A pass in Level 2 consisting of a minimum of 14 credits is required.  At least 6 credits must have been achieved at either Merit or Excellence level.  

Entry to Technology Scholarship is available via invitation only.

Subject and Associated Costs

Course Costs: $5.00 for Web server space and database.
Associated Costs: Printing costs.

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.

This subject is eligible for subject endorsement.
