Objectives
The purpose of this course is to further develop students’ problem-solving skills and critical thinking through a variety of mathematical and statistical tasks. Students will be on a programme suited to their needs.
There is the opportunity to participate in Mathematics competitions and the MATHEX team competition.
Content
MYP Unit | Outline |
Crafty Consumers (Number) | Skills and applications of fractions, decimals, percentages and ratios. |
Getting from ‘A’ to ‘B’ (Algebra) | Skills and applications related to linear and non-linear (quadratic) tables, equations and graphs. |
Let the Data Decide (Statistics) | Analysing and interpreting various types of data. |
Trig or Treat (Geometry) | Skills and applications of angles, Pythagoras’ theorem and trigonometry. |
Numeracy Unit | Unit preparing students for the online digital numeracy co-requisite assessment |
Subject and Associated Costs
Course Costs: $22.00 Write-on workbook and Numeracy workbook.
Associated Costs: $10.00 Australian Mathematics Competition, Otago Mathematics Competition.
Equipment Required: Casio Graphics Calculator fx-9750-II or fx-9860-GIII.

Assessment Information
Year 11 Mathematics Minimum Entry Guideline(s):11 MAT (Mathematics) – Students must have achieved the 10 credit Numeracy co-requisite and achieved well in all 10MAT MYP topics and/or Teacher recommendation.
11 MNU (Mathematics Numeracy) – Yet to achieve the 10 credit Numeracy co-requisite and achievement in most topics covered in 10MAT MYP topics and/or Teacher recommendation.
