The Economic Problem | Explore key economic concepts such as scarcity and opportunity cost. Understand how economic ideas and concepts are a part of everyday life. |
Getting Down to Business | Explore innovation and entrepreneurship, culminating in creating and running a business for Market Day. |
Money Matters | Explore key ideas around financial literacy and money management (Budgeting). Examine how people can make positive financial decisions and changes using financial management strategies. |
All Around the World | Explore trade, exchange rates and cultural responsiveness and investigate how businesses need to adapt and change to trade in other countries. |
NOTE: Teams acting as companies at Market Day may make a profit and choose to keep it or donate to a worthy cause.

The Economic Problem - Learning and applying the concepts of scarcity, wants and needs, opportunity cost and resources.
Getting Down to Business - Creating and bringing to life a student-led business to produce a product, market and sell this within the school community.
Term 2
The Economic Problem - Learning and applying the concepts of scarcity, wants and needs, opportunity cost and resources.
Getting Down to Business - Creating and bringing to life a student-led business to produce a product, market and sell this within the school community.
Term 3
Money Matters - Investigating the concepts of credit, credit and debit cards, managed funds, Kiwisaver, interest and banking.
Budgeting - Learning and practising the basic concepts of creating a personal budget.
Term 4
All Around the World - Investigating the concepts, opportunities and challenges of trade (nationally and globally).
End of Year Activity - Money, Money, Money!
Subject and Associated Costs
Course Costs: Nil.
Associated Costs: Approximately $20.00 Set up costs for Market Day – this will be determined by the product the group chooses to make, and how the groups decide to fund their product.
Pathway
Enterprise Studies provides students with a sound foundation in financial literacy. Topics include savings and interest, loans, credit and debit cards, Kiwisaver, PAYE and budgeting. Students will also complete units in Economics, Business and Accounting, which will assist them with course selection for year 11 where these subjects can be selected as separate Commerce subjects.
