Te Tiriti o Waitangi, arrival of Māori, NZ Wars, Te Kai a te Rangatira (Lessons/knowledge from Leaders - past and present), Ngā Ātua Māori (Māori Gods).
Course Objectives
The five main language skills necessary for effective communication, namely listening, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural awareness are interrelated, and this will be reflected in the teaching and learning programme for Te Reo Māori. It is also important that students contribute to the revitalisation of the language for the good of the collective.
All teaching and learning throughout the year encompasses the following:

- Te Tika te Reo - Language Accuracy.
- Te Rere o te Reo - Language Fluency.
- Te Māori o te Reo - Cultural Integrity of the Language.
- Te Ora o te Reo - Language Vitality.
Subject Overview
Term 1
Arrival of Māori & Te Tiriti O Waitangi and NZ Wars.
Ākonga will learn of the history of Aotearoa pre-European arrival and what happened after the signing of the Treaty.
Focus: To further develop writing, speaking, and reading skills.
Term 2
Te Kai a te Rangatira.
Ākonga will learn about current and past chiefs/leaders. Ākonga will use these figures to further support speaking and writing internals.
Focus: To further develop writing, speaking, and reading skills.
Term 3
Ngā Ātua Māori.
Ākonga will learn about deity Māori, both female and male, and will use these deities to further support speaking and writing internals.
Focus: to further develop writing, speaking, and reading skills.
Term 4
Revise year. Preparation for externals
