Recommended Prior LearningStudent has achieved in a minimum 3 of the 4 assessment areas for Year 11 DVC. If the student did not take DVC at Year 11 then approval is needed from the Head of Department.
Course Content
Year 12 Design and Visual Communication will allow students to further develop their creative and critical thinking. It will enable them with the skills and understanding to back up their original thoughts in a practical and functional way. Students will learn a variety of visual communication techniques, which will allow them to successfully develop a workable design outcome.

Term 1
Product design brief – Clock or lighting design based on a chosen design era.
AS91340 - Students initiate their design process by researching an existing design movement or era. They use this influence to inspire their product design standard.
AS91342 - Students design for either a clock or lighting product. They carry out the design process from start to finish considering form, functional and structural resolution.
Term 2
AS91342 - Students complete their clock/lighting project.
AS91341- Late in the term students begin their Spatial design project. Students are given a location in Auckland to redesign and improve. They decide what inspiration they will take and what the spatial design will be.
Term 3
AS91341 - Students complete their Spatial design project.
Term 4
AS 91337 - Students chose their stronger project and re-visit it to make improvements before sending it away for the External marking.
AS 91338 - This is an optional standard for students who enjoy or flourish in technical drawing.
A.S. 91338 is optional.
Standards made available to the students may depend on their personal DVC practice. A minimum of 18 credits will be available for every student.
Level 3 (Year 13) Graphics Guideline(s):
A minimum of 12 credits. At least 6 credits must have been achieved at either Merit or Excellence standard. Students not meeting these requirements must gain approval of the Head of Faculty.
